Utrecht, 12 November 2024 – The second edition of Cybersec Netherlands has surpassed all expectations, attracting over 3,000 visitors and presenting a revamped, internationally-focused program. Organized by Royal Jaarbeurs, the trade show took place on 6-7 November and once again solidified its position as a leading cybersecurity event in Europe. With its in-depth content and interactive experiences, Cybersec Netherlands continues to push boundaries in the industry. Trade show manager Mick den Dijker stated, “Cybersec Netherlands 2024 demonstrated growth on all fronts, with an international program, global partners, and unique ways for visitors to experience cybersecurity firsthand.”
Dave Maasland: The Open Nature of This Trade Show is Essential
Held for the second time in Utrecht, Cybersec Netherlands offered a high-quality international program where industry experts and leaders shared knowledge and developed strategies. The event aims to strengthen organizations in the Netherlands and beyond against growing digital threats. Mick den Dijker shared, “I am incredibly proud of the overwhelmingly positive feedback and the community’s willingness to enhance the event’s value and accessibility. Together, we are taking important steps toward a more secure digital climate in the Netherlands and Europe. We aim to play a prominent role in this effort.”
Cybersecurity expert and speaker Dave Maasland emphasized the trade show’s importance:
“What I really want to highlight is why Cybersec Netherlands is so vital. Many cybersecurity conferences are invite-only and have a closed nature, which often excludes new talent and emerging startups. That’s why an open platform like this is essential—a community where everyone is welcome: public sector, private sector, new talent, and students.”
New Experiences: A First for Europe
This year, Cybersec Netherlands introduced various interactive ways for attendees to immerse themselves in the world of cybersecurity. The VR experience from the Platform for Safe Entrepreneurship provided a realistic look into cybercrime, while Waker Security’s simulation offered insights into managing cyber threats. For the first time in Europe, the event featured a ‘Capture the Flag’ competition, where participants tested their cybersecurity skills through challenges and real-time simulations.
Strong Collaboration and Societal Impact
Cybersec Netherlands partnered with numerous organizations, including DDA, DTC, and Women 4 Cyber. International organizations such as the CyberPeace Institute also participated, aiding businesses that lack the resources for in-house cybersecurity expertise. These collaborations reflect the event’s commitment to building a safer digital future for all.
New this year was the partnership with Security Delta (HSD), a Dutch security cluster working toward a safer digital world. The collaboration aimed to better prepare businesses against cybercrime. Mick den Dijker commented,
“Having such a leading authority as HSD join Cybersec Netherlands is incredibly valuable. This partnership underscores the quality of our trade show and adds value for our visitors and participants. Together with HSD, we look back on a successful edition that contributes to a digitally safer Netherlands.”
Brenno de Winter Announces Appeal in Bunq Case
During the event, cybersecurity expert Brenno de Winter announced his decision to appeal in the high-profile case against Bunq. The case, which has drawn significant attention within the cybersecurity community, raises critical questions about digital privacy and the role of banks in data protection. This announcement underscores the urgency of strengthening digital rights and the importance of cybersecurity for citizens and businesses alike.
Save the Date: Next Edition in 2025
The next edition of Cybersec Netherlands will take place on 10-11 September 2025 at Royal Jaarbeurs. Den Dijker promised,
“With even more innovations and knowledge for professionals seeking to defend against the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats.”
